Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last of the weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than turning in at night just to find out your furnace won’t kick on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a couple things you can check yourself before calling Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters monthly. If you do not, they can end up clogged, obstructing air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but verify the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so verify the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your furnace will still not start up, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 540-302-8645 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
