Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last of the weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than going to bed at night just to find out your furnace won’t kick on. If this happens to you, here are a couple things you can check yourself before your call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters monthly. If you do not, they can become clogged, obstructing air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem silly, but verify the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so verify the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your heating system will still not start up, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 540-302-8645 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
