Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer hasn’t quite made its debut but the temperatures are definitely increasing and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the heat sets in and you’re running your air conditioning unit 24/7 to stay comfortable, go ahead and call your AC maintenance technician to come out and complete your yearly ac maintenance.

In addition to an air conditioning tune-up, there are a few other ways you can get your home ready for the cooling season before summer is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let a qualified technician do that, but you can clean up the space around your unit to remove sticks and foliage that have made their way to your A/C system during the windy winter and stormy spring. Mow the grass around the A/C and cut back any overgrown plants or vegetation to make sure your A/C system is clear of debris. Clearing the air way can help keep your air conditioning unit running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning will swap out your home’s basic air filters when they complete your air conditioning tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also swap out your HVAC air filters in between maintenance visits, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every 30-60 days for optimal performance. If you don’t replace your filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of the people living in your home and the efficiency of your A/C system, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your seasonal cooling equipment service. Also, a clogged filter could even damage your A/C system.

  • Block the Sun

Hanging blackout drapes or window shades can help keep your home cooler and avoid the sun from heating up your home. These window coverings may also help protect your furniture and floors from fading or suffering from sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t spend daylight savings checking the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors, now it the perfect time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is running properly so you don’t end up calling your HVAC company because your system isn’t working and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider installing an automated thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your energy bills.

A seasonal A/C system tune-up service could make your system up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your energy bills.
