4 Tips for Furnace Repair

April 15, 2016

Spring may have sprung but in Roanoke it’s not all warm and snug outside. Your furnace has been running for months attempting to keep the inside of your home comfortable, so now is the time to give your furnace some affection. If you hear weird noises or the heating system has turned itself off, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice a strong gas smell, you almost definitely need furnace repair work and you should call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning as soon as possible.

Before you assume that you need a furnace repair technician, review these tips from Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

  • Confirm your thermostat has been changed to “heat.”

It may sound ridiculous, but we are always running and life happens, so it’s very easy to miss the simple fixes. Not remembering to change over the thermostat can make you assume you need furnace repair and installation when really you can remedy the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

Speaking of switches, make sure your furnace switch is moved to the up, or “on” position. Like we said, an easy miss, especially since this switch isn’t one you might look at daily. Most units have built-in delays so give it a few minutes for your furnace to get going before panicking about calling our furnace repair man.

  • Replace your furnace air filter.

You should swap out your home’s air filters around every three months to help your system run more efficiently and prolong any furnace repair work. An unclean air filter is one of the most typical reasons for declining performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for illness causing microbes and cause you and your family to become sick. Swap your filter to keep both your furnace and your family healthy. You may also schedule seasonal maintenance with Service Experts and have a thorough furnace cleaning as part of your check up.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Check your circuit breaker panel to see if the breaker that controls your furnace is in the middle position or the “off” position. If the breaker has ended up in the middle position, cycle the breaker to “off” and then reset it to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs could be expensive, so avoid a possible issue altogether with seasonal maintenance from Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning. However, if you ever do need furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to service all your heating needs.
